No way! A look at Kanon 24?? (AKA "Neon Genesis Evankanonian")

I won't waste your time other than to say Kanon was great overall, Mai~i rocks, Clannard looks spiffy, and I'd sorely been missing "Ahaha~" from my diet. Oh, and I'll leave you with this picture.

ANN on why AIR and Kanon coming stateside is troublesome

The quick summary is that they're overpriced licenses and the audience who would buy the DVDs are a bunch of annoying fags like you and me.

>>Anime News Network SOURCE<< (you'll have to scroll down)

You manage to do a pretty good job summing up why shows like AIR or Kanon are unlikely to be licensed for release in the States, actually. From what I've heard speaking with various and sundry industry folk involved in such things, the licenses for those shows are pretty overpriced - especially so considering the nature of those series, which would have a very limited audience here. The Japanese license holders are overestimating the profit potential, I'd wager.

[...]

Those nitpicky mega-otaku who see vast depth and meaning behind every utterance of "UGUU~" are the only people who would potentially buy these shows; they're the target market, and as you described, they're pretty particular about what they want and generally are happier with the fan translations, living under the notion that fansubs are "always" more accurate than official subs. That "stupid otaku stuff" is precisely what attracts a certain (small) portion of the population to these shows, and if there's any discrepancy between the fansub and the official release, they'll likely cry foul and call for a boycott. It's lose-lose for any company looking to actually make a buck off the license.

That last jab seems kinda dick'ish.. but then perhaps that's because it is also partially true. I probably would complain if my subtitles were dumbed down.

But then I also think, if companies can put series like Pani Poni Dash! and Ichigo Mashimaro (top of my head) out there, keeping the nuances and cultural stuff pretty much intact and make money... well, AIR and Kanon (and let's just throw in Rozen Maiden--"desu" anyone?) can't exactly be rocket science to translate.

Thoughts?

You're too pricey, bitch!

Kanon 21 (AKA "HOLY. SHIT.")

Yes, I've had no experience with Kanon until Kanon 2: Kanon Harder.
I was hoping it wasn't that obvious.

omg, foreshadowing??!

There is seriously something wrong with this series. It drew me in with promises of cute catchphrases and uber moeness... and then they started killing everyone.

Left, right, and center.

Look, I present the facts to you people here today: Yuuichi has more game than any other anime lead in history, yet his success rate with these girls makes Keiichi from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni look like a true fucking winner.

The only logical conclusion I can make of all this, is that Nayuki is psychotic and murdering these bitches out of jealousy. Zettai!

(I was going to say Akiko, coz it always seemed like she had something to hide, but the rogue SUV kinda took care of any suspicions)

What can I tell you? It is.
KEY hate you all; they also hate kittens.

Just a few quick recaps...

Hidamari Sketch 1: I had expected a bit after seeing some reviews about, but this really surprised me. How to describe the feeling? Umm.. it's kinda like the surprise you feel when you use 170mb of bandwidth and then wonder what the hell you're doing watching this.

Best way I can sum up the show is that it's like Pani Poni Dash! but really boring less crazy. And none of the characters really have enough personality to drive a slice-of-life show like this.

I guess I'll give it one more episode because it'd be rude otherwise, but wow, it was like watching people sit around a table and talk about photographs. Wait, it's not like that. It is that!

Kekkaishi: Can't remember what ep, but it had wolfo a wolfo action. I prefer it when people are saying "ketsu!" and stuff ("tenketsu!" is the real money) but yeah, this was okay enough.
Oh, I also love the OP and ED music for this series; they need to get some singles out there already.

I'll buy them.

Honestly?

Madarao is totally hard gay, huhu.

Code Geass 16: Even better than the episode before it (and that one had boobix). The payoff may not have been there for everyone, but if Suzuku makes you want to cook up a plate of Eternal-Hate with a side dish of Face-Punch, there was nothing better than watching him get PUNK'D by Mao... and then Mao BLAOW'D by the Pizza Hut broad. Everyone wins!

Kanon 19: OMG STEAMY FAKE-LOLI MAKEOUT, BONUS CHANCE! One thing though.. it's like it took 10 episodes or something for the dorama to start in this show, and it's been people crying non-stop since Mai did bunny cosplay. I like to see girls with tears in their eyes as much as the next guy, but you can have too much of a good thing.

Jigoku Shoujo Futakamori 7: Oh yeah, people are still subbing this? I had almost forgotten about my favourite episodic revenge series. Interesting concept this time, but they skipped the ippen shinde miru so boooo!

Is that blue eyed demon loli gonna actually do anything? So far her purpose seems to be little beyond pissing me off. Don't mess with Ai, chibi whore spawn!
