HOT DEAL$$$: Help me spend my quasi-money!

Totoro coffee
Should I prioritize some Totoro coffee?

It's no stretch to say that when someone needs an anime education, my peeps from animenano consider me the go-to-guy; a village elder, if you will. But despite this fact, I have only ever seen three Studio Ghibli films. Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle.

But that's all about to change. Because y'see, just lately I've become quite flush, and I'm rolling deep in DVD vouchers. I feature that I'll use this opportunity to catch up on things, but I'm gonna need some help.

I'm probably going to have enough paydirt to get 3 or 4 movies, but I'm at a bit of a loss which Ghibli titles to go for. The Anime Stock Exchange would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction with some kind suggestions.

Oh, and even though I am much of manly, I don't mind pussing out every now and then, so don't worry if you got girly opinions.

And I prefered Spirited Away over Princess Mononoke for what it's worth (it just bummed me out too much)

If we are talking about getting Ghibli movies only, I'd say Whisper of the Heart and Porco Rosso you should definately get, but I don't have much of a preferance when it comes to the rest of them.

Whisper of the Heart heartily seconded. Then, on the Miyazaki side, I'd suggest Laputa and perhaps Nausicaä, and on the Takahata side, Grave of the fireflies (which is an absolute must-see).

You can't go wrong with Ghibli, unless you're super unlucky.

But if you haven't seen Porco Rosso, you can't be serious about Hayao Miyazaki. It's probably his most unique piece of animated work, IMO. Especially if you dig his Lupin.

Also go watch Totoro, but you can "get" a lot of that from his later works. Spirited Away does some of that better...?

My favorite Ghibli film is Whisper. Least is basically any Takahata film, but that's still a lot of loving.

And of course, who can skip Nausicaa?

Hmm, i couldn't actually find Whisper Of The Heart at my local store even though they seem to have everything else.. :/

Cheers for the suggestions guys/gals.. I'll see what I can do

And for the other 200 odd unique views I got on this page, thanks for nothing assholes. My life could have been ruined forever if it wasn't for these 4 generous people!

I just finished Nausicaa like 20 minutes ago and it is by far the worst (and by worst I mean the only bad one I've seen)Ghibli movie I've seen yet. It wasn't close to being as good or original as Spirited or Howl's Moving Castle, or even Princess Monoke. You might like Nausicaa if you enjoy the cliched "girl who calms the beasts instead of doing anything logical" type of movie. I was definitely disappointed. Well I can't really reccommend anything because I haven't seen them all, just posting to warn you not to expect Nausicaa to be at all as good as his later movies IMHO.
