I just finished Nausicaa like 20 minutes ago and it is by far the worst (and by worst I mean the only bad one I've seen)Ghibli movie I've seen yet. It wasn't close to being as good or original as Spirited or Howl's Moving Castle, or even Princess Monoke. Hmm, i couldn't actually find Whisper Of The Heart at my local store even though they seem to have everything else.. :/

You can't go wrong with Ghibli, unless you're super unlucky.

But if you haven't seen Porco Rosso, you can't be serious about Hayao Miyazaki. It's probably his most unique piece of animated work, IMO. Especially if you dig his Lupin.

Also go watch Totoro, but you can "get" a lot of that from his later works. Spirited Away does some of that better...?

Whisper of the Heart heartily seconded. Then, on the Miyazaki side, I'd suggest Laputa and perhaps Nausicaä, and on the Takahata side, Grave of the fireflies (which is an absolute must-see).

If we are talking about getting Ghibli movies only, I'd say Whisper of the Heart and Porco Rosso you should definately get, but I don't have much of a preferance when it comes to the rest of them.
